Fucaria Tiger’s Jaw lives up to its common name. The sharp spines that edge the pairs of speckled leaves look like the teeth of a ferocious tiger. Their low-growing habit and unusual leaves make a spectacular addition to a succulent dish garden.
These South African succulents grow in clumps of stemless, star-shaped rosettes in its dry, rocky native habitat. Give them the same hot, dry, sunny environment and they’ll feel right at home.
About Furkeria
Furcraea foetida is an evergreen perennial subshrub, stemless or with a short stem up to 1 m tall. The leaves are sword-shaped, 1 to 1.
8 m long and 10 to 15 cm broad at their widest point, narrowing to 6 to 7 cm broad at the leaf base, and to a sharp spine tip at the apex; the margins are entire or with a few hooked spines. The flowers are greenish to creamy white, 4 cm long, and strongly scented; they are produced on a large inflorescence up to 7.5 m tall.The plant is cultivated in subtropical and tropical regions for products and as an ornamental plant for gardens.Its leaves are used to produce a natural fiber similar to sisal.

Planting And Care
Full sun is best, but Furcaria will do just fine in light shade as well. These are good plants for a south-facing exposure or unobstructed east- or west-facing window. Furcaria are drought resistant due to their large root system: watering them infrequently (though more so during their bloom in summer and spring) will be fine. Be careful not to overwater. As with most succulents, standing water can be lethal.
Well-draining succulent mix is crucial too much water will kill these plants and they should never be in water-logged soil or allowed to stand in a tray with water. The pH should generally be slightly acidic. Furcaria will take either a controlled-release fertilizer at the beginning of the season or weekly fertilization with a weak liquid solution.
Furkeria Care
The Furcraia plant is sometimes used as ornamental pieces in gardens and as a source of natural fibers. The most popular among them is the Furcraea foetida: its long, sword-shaped, variegated leaves make it a distinctive and attractive ornamental piece.
Furcraea also blooms with flowers ranging from creamy white to green with a powerful and pleasant scent. Though different species of Furcraea vary in size, it is a fairly manageable size for container cultivation. It generally remains only a few feet tall and a few feet wide.
